New traffic study for Navarre causeway

Traffic at the Navarre Beach Causeway is usually a pain to cross during busy traffic times.

Santa Rosa County officials are trying to find a solution to the traffic problem.

During the late afternoon it can take hundreds of cars anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes just to get across the Navarre Beach Causeway and onto Highway 98.

Santa Rosa County is trying to find a permanent solution to this on-going problem. They've hired a consulting firm to do a traffic study at the busy intersection. Many drivers have told me their horror stories about how long it's taken them to cross the bridge when traffic is heavy and others shared their own ideas on ways to solve the traffic problem.

"We tried to go home around 5 and we ended up staying out on the pier because we were fishing until well after 9 because you couldn't get out this way and there was no point in even trying to leave," said Navarre resident Dana Icenhour.

"I don't know if the timing on the light would work because sometimes the police officers get out here and direct it and you're still stuck in it for long periods of time," said Navarre resident Preston Miller.
