NY College student killed by Police

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) -- Officials say a New York college student was accidentally killed by a police officer as she was held in a headlock by an intruder pointing a gun at her head during a break-in at an off-campus home.
Nassau County police said Hofstra University junior Andrea Rebello was killed after being shot in the head when police responded to a break-in early Friday.
Police say Dalton Smith was holding a loaded gun to Rebello's head after entering the home looking for valuables.
Police say an officer fired eight shots at Smith after he pointed his weapon at the officer, hitting him seven times and killing him.
The shooting came just days before the school's commencement ceremonies, which are scheduled to take place Sunday.
