Emergency Operation Center across Florida holding disaster drills this week
ESCAMBIA/SANTA ROSA COUNTY -- Emergency Operations Centers are the nerve center for the community when disaster strikes.
Today the Santa Rosa County EOC was filled with people dealing with a make-believe catastrophe.
The drill is a chance to review procedures with county staff, volunteers, and others.
Emergency Operations Centers around the state are holding exercises this week as part of Florida's Hurricane Preparedness week.
Escambia County held theirs today, too.
John Dosh/Escambia Co. Chief of Emergency Management:
"Some of the football coaches of the past have always said, you play as you practice."
That's the whole purpose of today, to smooth out the speed bumps so if we do have to activate for real it's an easy transition."
The EOC teams are also reminding everyone to review your own disaster plan and emergency kits now for home and work. Wear can help you with that.
