Pensacola celebrates National Tourism Week
PENSACOLA, Fla. -- It's National Tourism Week and the Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce is celebrating with a rally at the Pensacola International Airport Tuesday.
The annual event, known as National Travel and Tourism Week, was created to increase the awareness and appreciation of travel and tourism's impact on not only the local economy, but also the more than 14.4 million Americans who work in the travel and tourism industries.
Several Pensacola Bay area stakeholders will speak at the rally at the Pensacola International Airport. Several dozen industry leaders have also been invited to the event.
"If you look at the visitors that stay overnight, they spend money not only at the hotels, but shopping and that helps small businesses. So we want more to come here. It will help throughout the year, not just during the summer months," said Vice President Steve Haynes.
