Investigators Seek Man in Connection with Brent Shooting

PENSACOLA, Fla. – We now have the name of a man who was shot several times yesterday in the Brent community.     

Deputies say Steve Benjamin Jr. was shot near Cary Memorial Drive and Lenox multiple times and was found a block away on Quina Way where he had collapsed.

Sheriff's investigators are now looking for a 29- year old Chandler Bass for connections with the shooting.

"Neighbors say they saw Steve Benjamin Jr. frantically running down this street, banging on doors, trying to get somebody to open their home, but before anybody could do anything he collapsed here in front of this mailbox."
    
Witnesses quickly dialed 911.
Within minutes deputies arrived, blocking off streets.
Benjamin  was shot several times and rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital
    
Investigators believe the shooting was drug related..
They are searching for 29-year-old Chandler Bass.
    
He's also wanted on outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court and violating probation.
    
Benjamin's record shows many charges including trespassing, resisting  an officer, fraud impersonation, cocaine and marijuana possession, and driving on a suspended license.
    
Jon Van has lived in the neighborhood for 24 years.
 He says it's the first shooting he knows of in his neighborhood.
    
When he arrived home around 5:30 Thursday night police tape surrounded his home.

John Van  "I know if he would've come to my door I would've answered it and yeah it would've been terrifying."

Deputies say Chandler Bass is known to hang out in the Montclair neighbor and should be considered armed and dangerous.
