Suspicious letter evacuates the Department of Transportation in Tallahassee

UPDATE: Employees will be allowed to re-enter the DHS building at 1 p.m. EDT.

TALLAHASSEE -- A suspicious letter mentioning Anthrax has forced the Department of Highway Safety in Tallahassee to evacuate.

Investigators in haz-mat suits are on the scene right now. The letter was found shortly after eight this morning in a second floor office.

1500 workers were sent home. Seven employees who were in the room where the letter was discovered are being kept in the building to help preserve the crime scene.

"We were able to shut the air conditioning, heating system off to avoid circulating any type of substance if there was something. We were able to quarantine those seven folks in that one spot."

Samples are being sent to a lab for analysis. Employees were sent home until 1 p.m., when they will be briefed and told whether it is safe to return to work.
