Washington DC jobs training program misused $8 million

Investigators with the U.S. Labor Department say a jobs training program misused more than $8 million.

The program, run by the D.C. Department of Employment Services was designed to help unemployed workers find jobs.

An  investigation by the Inspector General's Office discovered that the program spent nearly $1 million in 'extra salary' to 15 employees.

The Washington Guardian, our investigative media partner, says the bulk of that $8 million was used to pay common bills.

"The DC Department of Employment Services wasted about $5 million in federal grant money on things for their own headquarters building like janitorial services, telephone services, security."
