Amendment requiring firefighters to monitor BMI rejected in the House

TALLAHASSEE   --   Florida firefighters won't have to fight with their weight in order to fight fires.

The House rejected an amendment that would have *required firefighters to watch their body mass index if they wanted to keep their job.

The amendment proposed firefighters have their BMI tested every four years in addition to their existing physical agility testing.

But, several representatives didn't like the idea saying that the BMI rating system doesn't calculate fitness and can be misleading.
