Airbus breaks ground in Mobile

MOBILE  --  After months of anticipation Airbus has finally broken ground on it's new aircraft assembly plant in Mobile.

This marks the start of construction of the 600 million dollar facility at Brookley Aeroplex.
Thousands of people will be hired during the construction phase of the facility.
The plant is expected to employ about one thousand people when it is operational.

Construction on an Airbus a-320 jet is expected to begin around 2015
The state's first major airbus supplier, Safran Engineering Services, is opening its new office in Mobile as well.
The company plans to employ as many as 50 people at an engineering support facility.
