Get in the Spirit Day at St. Michaels Cemetery

Pensacola is full of rich history and St. Michaels Cemetery is like an outdoor museum for the area.

The annual 'Get in the Spirit' Day put on by the St. Michaels Cemetery Foundation and UWF had hundreds of people checking out historic graves and earning about the pioneers who helped shape Pensacola into what it is today.

One tomb belongs to John Hunt. He was buried more than 160 years ago.

He helped put the City of Five Flags on the map.

"He contributed greatly to Pensacola's economy.  He didn't have any children so his name sort of disappears where a lot of the other influential businessmen of that era have persisted," said Cindy Caterllier.

In some spots around the cemetery, people were on hand who are actually related to these local historic figures, helping tell their ancient relatives' stories.
