Immigration reform

WASHINGTON  -- A key senator says farm growers have signed off on key parts of a new program to bring farm workers to the U.S., moving a major immigration bill one step closer to passage.

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California says the growers have agreed on wages and numbers of visas in the new program, which would let tens of thousands of farm workers into the country.

Those were the big sticking points between the industry and United Farm Workers, which has also agreed to the deal.

Feinstein says growers are still reviewing some details on worker protections but that a deal is very close.

It's one of a handful of unresolved details as senators aim to unveil a sweeping immigration bill, likely early next week.
