Florida A & M delays search for school president

TALLAHASSEE   --    Florida A&M University is going to delay its search for a permanent leader until next year.

The university board agreed Thursday to resume the search for a new president starting in January 2014.

The decision means that Larry Robinson, the interim president, will probably remain on the job for another school year.

FAMU board chairman Solomon Badger suspended the presidential search last month.

Badger says he suspended the search because the university is in the middle of a critical review by the school's accreditation agency. If FAMU loses accreditation students could no longer receive financial aid.

James Ammons abruptly resigned as president last year amid the fallout from the hazing death of a drum major in November 2011. Larry Robinson has been interim president since that time.
