Outbreak of stomach virus in Escambia County

ESCAMBIA COUNTY    --  An outbreak of stomach viruses in Escambia County has health officials encouraging everyone to take preventive measures.
 
And there's been reports of some cases of the Norovirus around the county.
There have been 14 outbreaks since early March in Escambia County.
   
9 of those were at elementary schools and childcare centers
4 were at Assisted Living facilities, with 1 case also being found in a neighborhood.

"Escambia County School District isn't releasing the schools that had this outbreak, but they are taking preventive measures. and this virus is popping up all over the county, and health officials are encouraging everyone to be on the look out.

At Miss Kathy's Early Learning Center, staying clean is an every day chore.
Once the children walk out the door, staff here clean all the toys and mats, doing their best to keep all viruses out and the children healthy.

"We have children who get sick then we have teachers out"
And if a child gets any type of virus, like the Norovirus, they take the cleaning up a notch.

"Tell the parents every room"
The Norovirus is highly contagious.
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, and fever.

The virus is hard to get rid of, because it can withstand hot and cold temperatures.
Parents around Escambia County are concerned.
