UPDATED: Commissioners take closer look at County Administrator applications

ESCAMBIA CO., Fla. --  Former administrator George Touart temporarily holds the Escambia County administrator position. After a brief bid Tuesday to increase Touart's salary, the county commission has decided to no longer increase the position's pay.

Touart currently makes $130,000, but county commissioner Gene Valentino wanted to bump up the pay to $140,000. Some commissioners ended up not supporting the raise and Touart himself reportedly declined the raise.

They are also extending the hiring period another 90 days and gathering a hiring panel to review all the candidates. The salary posting for the job was approved Tuesday to show a maximum pay of $165,000.

So far 42 people have applied for the job.
