Air Force completes investigation on training accident death

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE   --The investigation into the death of an Eglin Airman in a training exercise is complete.

Major Garrett Knowlan died after getting hit by a government contracted tow boat in Pensacola Bay on October 11th.

The Air Force says a series of events "contributed to a loss of situational awareness by the crew" contributed to the accident.

He was completing a four-day course at the time, that focuses on how to survive after parachuting into water.

Knowlan was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base and piloted the CV-22 Osprey.
