Plane crash in Ft. Lauderdale kills three

Three people are dead after their plane crashed into a Ft. Lauderdale parking lot Friday afternoon.

The small Piper Cheyenne had just taken off from a nearby airport.

Investigators say it quickly began to bank to the right, then crashed into a parking lot and caught fire.

"Flames and black smoke is billowing out and cars are on fire as the pictures describe it, but people were just running out and one of the tow truck drivers who actually ran out, I spoke with him and he basically told me that the plane landed in front of him, or crashed in front of him and he barely made it out before the cars that it hit exploded."

The cars in the parking lot were charred. Investigators believe the plane's engine may have lost power and had been trying to make it back to the airport when it went down. But no official word on a cause has been released.
