Children learn about bullying through opera

ESCAMBIA COUNTY  --  School children in Escambia County are learning about bullying through opera.

The Pensacola Opera performed "The Billy Goats Gruff" at Beulah Elementary School this morning.
They're taking the program to several different schools this month.
The familiar story helps introduce children to opera as well as relaying powerful messages about kindness and courtesy.

Ashley Cutright & Jennifer Juilfs, Pensacola Opera:
"It is a classic fairy tale and instead of a troll, there's a bully."

Chasity Romero, 4th Grader:
"I learned that bullying is not right. You shouldn't do it. You should always be nice and fair to everyone."
The opera is doing several public performances next month. One of the biggest will be April 20th at the Community Maritime Park in Downtown Pensacola, starting at 10 am. You can find a full list of free performances on the Pensacola Opera website.
