Early morning house fire on Cheyenne Circle

Right now, the State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed a home in the Montclair neighborhood early Saturday morning.

Neighbors say the fire started around 6:30 a.m. in a vacant house on Cheyenne Circle.

Investigators suspect arson.

Neighbors say the house sat vacant for years. Now, all that's left are charred remains.

"I'm just speechless. Really. I mean, it's been there a long time its just really sad to see it like that. It's sad it really is," said Abraham Larry.

Neighbors say they watched the home go up in flames and that during the blaze the flames shot up to 10 feet in the air.

"I was just saying wow. It just hurts to see it on fire," said George Hayes.

Johnny Tims lives next door to the vacant home.

While other neighbors watched, he was still asleep, unaware of the fire burning next door.

"I had no idea. I'm surprised it didn't get the house and burn me up," said Tims.

Rainy Ellis' bedroom is at the corner of the home next door. She never heard a thing.

"It was just so close. I can't imagine it," said Ellis.

The State Fire Marshal's Office placed a sign in front of the home, asking for information. They believe the fire was arson.

People in the neighborhood disagree.

"I don't think nobody would set it on fire. It's just been there too long."

Other residents are worried the home will now become an eyesore.

"We've already got enough problems with the junk out there, so this just adds on property value drops."

If you have any information on this fire, you're asked to contact the State Fire Marshal's Office.
