Judge finds 2 Ohio teens guilty of rape

An Ohio judge finds two Steubenville star high school football players guilty of raping a drunken 16-year-old girl.

The two teenagers, 17-year-old Trent Mays and 16-year-old Ma'lik Richmond, were tried as juveniles.

The non-jury trial moved quickly last week with four days of testimony.

Judge Thomas Lipp rendered his verdict Sunday morning after reviewing the evidence.

Lipps said the evidence presented was profane and ugly at times and said that alcohol consumption showed a particular danger to "our teenage youth."

Mays and Richmond raped the 16-year-old girl during a night of partying last August.

Mays was sentenced to a minimum of two years in a juvenile correctional facility.

Richmond was sentenced to a minimum of one year, but like Mays could be in detention until he is 21.

The case has riveted the small city of Steubenville amid allegations that more students should have been charged and led to questions about the influence of the local football team, a source of pride in a community that suffered massive job losses with the collapse of the steel industry.
