Students at Saint Mary's Catholic School react to new Pope introduction

SANTA ROSA COUNTY  --  Millions of people around the world watched Pope Francis' introduction live this afternoon.

We visited Catholic students to find out what they think on this historic day.
Right as we saw the white smoke --- we drove down here to Saint Mary's Catholic School in Fort Walton Beach.

We were inside a 3rd grade classroom as Pope Francis stepped out on the balcony.
There were cheers and applause from the students.

Although these children are young --- they understood the process and how important this moment is  for many Catholics.
Mia Patella, 3rd grader: "My favorite part.. This side of the world."

And they weren't the only ones excited ---  staff at Saint Mary's huddled around a TV inside the principal's office.

They did not expect a new pope to be selected today - they thought it would take a few more days.
