Bills moving through the state legislature in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE    --   Some of the bills moving through the state legislature.
A bill that would prohibit more people with mental illness from owning a gun cleared a House committee today.

More than 90,000 Floridians with mental illness are in a database that prohibits them from buying a gun, but ten times that many may have found a loophole.

Right now, if you voluntarily commit yourself you can retain the right to own a gun.

The bill passed in committee today would close that loophole.

The House Education Appropriations Subcommittee also passed an anti-bullying bill today.

It would add a definition for cyber bullying and specifically prohibit harassment via computer.

It would also require each school district to update its policies to describe behaviors that lead to bullying and require that any complaint of cyber-bullying be investigated by the district.
