Blue Angels head to Key West for airshow

NAS PENSACOLA   --  The Blue Angels were back  in the sky over NAS Pensacola this morning.
They returned home after their winter training in El Centro, California wrapped up last week.
It wasn't supposed to be a *full rehearsal.

"The Blue Angels are back in Pensacola!  And even though there's some concern about the upcoming season, thousands of fans showed up this morning to welcome them back with open arms."
Cloudy, chilly conditions couldn't keep the crowds away this morning.
"They're pretty cool!

"We didn't tell the kids til today so they were excited."
"I've probably seen then 20 or 30 times and I still get a lump in my throat every time I see them."

The Blues were only planning to fly some basic maneuvers. The large turn out may have encouraged them to give a little more.
But the talk of canceling air shows for this season is giving everyone cause for concern.

"They're a definitely a symbol of strength and resolve in this country and you hope that they would be allowed to perform throughout the remainder of the year."

Brittany Wheeler/Pensacola
"I don't agree with it.  I'd rather this tradition be able to be viewed from all the states and continue."

According to the Blue Angels website, seven of their scheduled air show appearances have already been canceled.  The status of the rest of them is unknown at this time.  Fans here hope their cheers will send a message to keep the blues flying.

"It's a great thing to be a part of and there's just a rich history with the Blue Angels, it's great to see them and watch them."

"Question marks on the rest of the season not withstanding, the Blue Angels leave tomorrow morning to fly for an air show in Key West.
