Teachers having guns at school

Federal laws ban everyone  except for law enforcement from having guns on school property.
But a bill currently in the Florida senate would allow teachers to carry guns on school grounds.

If it is approved principals would be able to select teachers that either have military experience or have a concealed weapons permit to have access to  firearms.
Some Florida lawmakers say it could help prevent the kind of tragedy that happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December of 2012.
But the Escambia County School District and school superintendent Malcolm Thomas are against the idea.
They say adding a resource officer to all elementary schools and taking extra security steps are a better way to go.

"We do have to keep our teachers and our children safe, but there are other ways to do it then having so many guns in a school."
The superintendent of Santa Rosa County says he is also against allowing guns in schools.

Okaloosa County has not yet commented on the issue.
