New research shows walking may lower breast cancer
With breast cancer awareness month in full swing, many women are likely looking for ways to lower their risk. Now, a new study suggests that the answer may be as easy as putting one foot in front of the other.
Walking... Literally and figuratively a simple step to take for your health. But it may not be just your heart and waistline that benefit. New research now shows walking may lower breast cancer risk as well.
Researchers with the American Cancer Society studied data on more than 73,000 post-menopausal women, comparing their breast cancer risk to exercise habits. Those who met the weekly requirement of 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise had a 25% lower risk than those who did not exercise at all.
The surprise? Walking is linked to a 14% lower risk of breast cancer, even if no other exercise is involved.
Bottom line: Its not too late to walk away from breast cancer.
