Local High School Teams to Compete on Big League Stage

Updated: Thursday, March 14 2013, 01:04 PM CDT
PENSACOLA, Fla. (RELEASE) -- The defending State Champion Catholic Crusaders will square off against the Pace Patriots at the Pensacola Bayfront Stadium on Thursday, March 28 as part of the run up to the April 4 Opening Day for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.  Gates will open at 6pm and the first pitch will be thrown out at 7pm for the 7-inning game hosted by the Blue Wahoos, with fireworks following the game sponsored by Haynes Van and Storage.

Blue Wahoos Events Coordinator Shelley Yates said that the organization wasn't able to host local high school teams last season while the stadium was still be completed prior to the 2012 Opening Day. Yates said that officials from Pace and Catholic high schools approached the Blue Wahoos last fall about a potential game at the stadium, and that the timing worked out this year for the game to happen.

"This is a multi-use stadium, and we've tried very hard to live up to that commitment to the public," said Yates. "Last year our timeline was so compressed with the stadium still under construction, that we really had no opportunity for any pre-season events.  This year, we do have a little bit more breathing room, so we are excited about opportunity to host a high school game here at the Bayfront Stadium," Yates continued.  "The folks at Pace and Catholic reached out to us, and we had a small window where we thought it might work, so we went for it, and we're excited to see these two teams square off at this great venue in downtown Pensacola," said Yates.

The Pace-Catholic game will start at 7 p.m., with tickets available at the Blue Wahoos, Dodge Ram Box office and online at BlueWahoos.com.  Adult tickets are $10, with $5 tickets for students and active military with proper ID.Local High School Teams to Compete on Big League Stage
