Pensacola Ice Flyers open playoffs in Biloxi

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 01:55 PM CDT
The Pensacola Ice Flyers open the playoffs Friday night, in Biloxi.   They reached the championship round, last year.  They're trying to take it one step farther.
It's a short series with the arch-rival Mississippi Surge.   First team to win two games, moves on.

The Flyers generated a lot of excitement with their run to the finals last year.

That enthusiasm carried over to this season.  So did the expectations.

That can be dangerous because hockey provides more playoff upsets than any other sport.

The Surge won four of the last six meetings with the Flyers, although the Flyers have their best line-up of the year.

Still, it's a short playoff series.  Anything can happen.  And quickly.   Playoff hockey is simply a different animal.

Game One, Friday night, in Biloxi, where the Flyers were 3-3 this year.

The series moves to Pensacola for Saturday night and Game Three, if necessary, Sunday evening at 6 p.m., at the Pensacola Bay Center.Pensacola Ice Flyers open playoffs in Biloxi
