HURRICANE GUIDE - WATCHES/WARNINGS ISSUANCE

When A Hurricane Watch Is Issued:

When a tropical storm or hurricane watch is issued, tropical storm or hurricane conditions are possible within 48 hours. This is the time to do last minute preparations for the approaching storm.
Monitor storm reports on Channel 3 News.
Bring in lawn furniture, trash cans, potted plants and other loose objects in your yard that could become flying projectiles in high winds.
If you plan on evacuating, know your evacuation route and consider leaving before an order is issued.
Keep your automobile with a full tank of gas.
Anchor small boats or move them to a safe area.

When A Hurricane Warning Is Issued:

When a tropical storm or hurricane warning is issued, conditions are expected within 36 hours. All preparations should be completed and evacuations may be in order.
Listen constantly to storms progress on Channel 3 News.
Board or shutter windows and glass doors.
Turn refrigerators and freezers to highest setting. Freeze water in plastic jugs and use them to fill empty space to keep food cool.
If you live on high ground away from coastal beaches consider riding out the storm. Put supplies and irreplaceable items in a central part of your home away from windows and doors. Pad the area with mattresses to protect you and your family during the storm.
Fill clean sinks and tubs with water for bathing and sanitary purposes.
Remain indoors during the storm at all times.
