FLORIDA - The state's number one industry is slowing because of the nation's economic situation.

In September, fewer tourist than expected visited the state...

Visit Florida is now launching several campaigns in nearby states in an effort to boost travel.

Visit Florida Marketing Director Will Seccombe says even though out-of-state travelers are staying at home, in-state travelers are helping fill the void.

"The thing that probably benefits Florida is that if any of the trends are down, it would have been negated by in-state travel. There's a huge opportunity with 19 million residents in the state who need to get out and explore the state. I think in-state, we benefited a little bit by that."

Some good news for the state's tourism industry, gas price have fallen drastically over the last month.Tourism In Florida Takes A Hit
