FLORIDA - Florida voters will decide on an amendment that would change tax policy to help waterfront businesses.

Coastal marinas, oyster houses and other marine interests around the state have been under increasing pressure to sell out to developers.

Right now....appraisers can tax the property for what it *could be used for, instead of how it is being used *now.

Amendment Six on the November ballot would change that so property can only be taxed based on how it is currently being used.

Marina Manager Bruce Sanson hopes voters tax him fairly.

Bruce Sanson: "We do not intend on the future use of it to be greater than what it is, then it should stay like it is."

Florida Taxwatch supports the amendment, but wishes it also extended tax breaks to mom and pop hotels and parks along the coast.

The amendment needs a 60 percent approval margin before it can take effect in 2010.Amendment Six
