FLORIDA - Florida Congressman Tim Mahoney says he is taking full responsibility for his actions and pain he caused his family, but he did not directly admit to having an affair.

This comes one day after ABC News reported that Mahoney had an affair with an aide and then paid her 121-thousand dollars to keep quiet.

In a prepared statement this morning with his wife by his side, Mahoney apologized and asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate quote "False investigations being reported in the media".

"The people of my district know that I'm a fighter and Im not going to allow this politically motivated story coming out 20 days before the election change my resolve to serve the people of the 16th Congressional District. I have worked hard and Im prepared to put my faith in the people and ask for their vote..." 1:59

Mahoney replaced former republican Representative Mark Foley after allegations emerged that Foley sent lurid internet messages to Capitol Hill Pages.Investigation of Congressman Mahoney
