•  FLORIDA CAPITOL NEWS
By the end of business today...Some 300 insurance companies *must show how much they plan to charge Florida customers in the future.

But, as of this morning....only half of the companies doing business in the state had complied with the new rate filing law.

The law was passed to make sure insurance companies were passing on savings to consumers... After the state took on 15 billion dollars in risk.

But, so far, many insurers are filing for *increases, instead of decreases..

The good news for policy holders is that no rate hikes will take effect until they are approved...Which the governor says is doubtful.

Gov. Charlie Crist: "I don't think those increases will be approved, so they won't have to pay it."

Some of the rate hike requests are being driven by insurance ratings services.... who are also under investigation..... For possibly working together to set rates.Florida Insurance Rates
