• ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
PENSACOLA, FLORIDA - The minister of a small Pensacola Church had an idea for feeding people in need.

It would take hard work and dedication and there would be no pay.

Two ladies immediately volunteered and they turned out to be the perfect Angels To Tend To God's Garden.

Wendy Demeynieu, Growing God's Garden; I used to garden a lot with my dad. We just decided, let's just start with what we know and go with that.

Debbie Stowe, Labors in the Garden; Coming to church, I would always see this very large piece of grass and imagine a garden here.

Their imaginations took root and brought forth a harvest on a plot of land next to their church, Warrington United Methodist. From the time they turned the first spade of dirt, Wendy Demeynieu and Debbie Stowe have worked non-stop to turn this into a community garden; God's Garden, they call it.

Jenifer Lewis, Helps in God's Garden; Everyone serves with their individual gifts.

Debbie and Wendy are definitely gardening. They're the only ones out here every morning and every afternoon.

With the help of their fellow church members, even the youngest, the toiling has not been in vain. Even they are a little suprised at what their efforts have yielded.

Sweet peas, they're called Mr. Big. And then we have some Festival bush bean and then blackeyed peas. Tomatoes, And cucumbers, And squash. And the butter beans and green and white limas. The peppers and then the red radishes.

And then we have the herb garden. Oh, yes, we do have the watermelons and the cantaloupes.

Wendy; I mean, it's miracles everyday when you're going around and picking stuff.

Their "Miracles" are for the community. This bounty is free to anyone who might have a need. These gifts will magically appear on a doorstep or sometimes the children will hand deliver them.

Jenifer; They're the ones that tote the bags up and tells them that God loves them and this is a blessing from God's Garden.

Wendy; It's going to be a smile on somebody's face when they open their door and there's a bag of fresh vegetables sitting there.

Debbie; I am hoping, like a seed, like we planted here, how much it can make, that we're planting a seed for the churches to pick up and to start their own community garden.

Whether the idea grows or doesn't, Debbie and Wendy say they'll keep working their little corner of the earth and feeding as many as they can.

Wendy; I want to be helping where I can be helpful. I don't want to say I didn't do something I could have for somebody, when it's all said and done.
