• ANGELS IN OUR MIDST
Autism is one of the fastest growing developmental disabilities diagnosed in the United States.

Yet, it is one of the least understood, and that adds to the challenges these children and their parents often face.

Tonight, we meet an Angel who is taking "Aim" to tell their story.

Voice of Trista Blouin, Photographer; I've been photographing since I was a young child. I have tons of scrapboooks from when I was little. I used the 110; a lot of people remember that.

Over those many years, Trista Blouin has perfected her talent. Now a professional photographer, she is freely sharing her gift.

Trista Blouin, Photographer; Autism often times there's a stigma attached to it. And I wanted to do the book to break down the stereotypes.

Trista went to the Autism Society and volunteered to compile a book of pictures capturing everyday moments in the lives of famililes with autistic children.

Susan Byram, Autism Society Executive Director; To just glimpse into our lives and to recognize that those with autism are like everyone else but yet they do have additional needs. It's just a great opportunity for the community to be more aware.

Laura Kirkman, Molly's Mom; What's been going on with Molly has been kind of a private, family sort of thing that I haven't shared with lots of other people. And participating in this projects means telling the world what's going on in your home.

That was a big telling moment for Laura and David Kirkman. Their three year old daughter Molly is on the spectrum for Autism disorders and she's very high functioning. For other parents, where the behaviors are very irratic and severe, it's just not so simple to just pick up your child and head to the store or a movie.

Trista; There was always these looks sometimes when they go into public, like, why aren't you taking care of your children, you know, keeping them under control.

Trista; Creating this book and bringing attention to autism, I feel that, maybe, more people will understand that there are a whole host of challenges that go with that. And it doesn't have anything to do with what kind of parent they are, it has to do with the unknowns of autism and what's going on in their brain; what's happening up there that we don't understand.

The books is available for purchase with the funds going to the Autism Society to help provide services for the children. Trista hopes her biggest gift will be one that's immeasurable...Understanding.

Laura; Her participation in wanting to kind of bring that out is just a wonderful gift to us.

The books will be unveiled at the Autism Society Dinner this Friday night.
