PENSACOLA, FL - A Pensacola man, who investigators say is connected to a shooting death at an Escambia County Bar last month, appeared in court today.

Channel Three's James Jackson spoke with the victim's mother about this week's changes in the case.

20-year-old Brandon Davis was in court Friday.

He's charged with felony murder and robbery in the death of Jared Ortiz.

His mother, Marcie Reber, buried her son on October 30th her father's birthday.

Marcie Reber/Jared's Mother, "I want to put a face to who shot my son and I want them to go to prison and never come out."

Investigators believe Davis and another man stormed into the Oakcrest Lounge in the early morning hours of October 23rd.

Ortiz was shot in the back of the head, as he sat at the bar playing poker.

Yesterday, David Gilchrist, the other man arrested in Ortiz's murder, had all charges dropped against him.

The state attorney's office said Brandon Davis changed his statement.

David Gilchrist/Murder Charges Dropped, "They called me out of jail; told me I could go home; walked up out of there a free man. It's about time they got the story right."

Marcie Reber/Jared's Mother, "Oh my gosh. It was like losing my son all over again. It was like, everything kind of bobbled up. I had just started to put closure on and it just opened it wide again."

Not a day goes by that Reber doesn't wonder what happened that night.

She says going to area bars was not the norm for her son.

Marcie Reber/Jared's Mother, "He wasn't at the bars. He went and get them from the bars. But everybody knew that they could count on Jared to do that. That he'd be the one."

Ortiz's uncle was murdered in Philadelphia in 2001.

Police never found the killer.

The family hopes Jared's murder doesn't go unsolved.

A judge appointed a public defender to Davis today.

He will be arraigned on the charges after a grand jury convenes next week.

If convicted, Davis could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.Brandon Davis Appears In Court
