PENSACOLA BEACH - It was closed for several years after hurricanes Ivan and Dennis and Tropical Storm Ida shut it down once again.

But, this time the damage was minimal and the route between Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach is set to open once again.

Channel Three's Jim Carmack has more.

Having a road on a Barrier Island comes with certain hazards.

Tropical Storm Ida covered J. Earle Bowden Way with approximately 20,000 yards of sand between Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach.

The road was closed for safety reasons, but is set to reopen again tomorrow at 8am.

Donnie Webb/Florida Pizza Kitchen, "I love to see it open. I don't like to see any of these roads closed because you might get a little business out of it if it's open, but you're not gonna get any business if it's closed."

Local business owners agree that even a small amount of traffic from the east can bring in some customers.

The important thing is the road is safe.

Hank Snyder/Gulf Islands National Seashore, "The road base was not damaged by the storm. Sand washed over the road and protected much of the road from the erosion of rushing water."

"There are other areas that are in need of some major repairs mainly along the sides of the road or the bike path areas. No word yet on when those repairs will be completed, but those areas are clearly marked with construction barrels or cones."

Also set to open tomorrow morning is Perdido Key Road. The road to Fort Pickens is still closed, and sand removal should be completed in 4 to 6 weeks.J. Earle Bowden Way Reopened
