ESCAMBIA COUNTY - One of the suspects in the deaths of Byrd and Melanie Billings has entered a plea on unrelated charges.

35 year old Leonard Patrick Gonzalez Junior faces an assult charge after allegedly stabbing another inmate twice with a pencil at the Escambia County Jail.

Gonzalez Junior pleaded not guilty yesterday to aggrevated assult with a deadly weapon for the September incident.

He could face up to 15 years in prison.

Gonzalez Junior also faces first degree murder and other charges in the home invasion and murder of the Billings.

The state is seeking the death penalty in that case.

Man shoots himself in leg outside gun store

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- A man accidentally shot himself in the leg shortly after leaving a Jupiter gun store.

Police say the unidentified man went to Chuck's Guns and Ammo Monday afternoon, looking for batteries for the laser sight on a small handgun. When the man was back in his car, the gun accidentally fired, hitting him in the leg.

The man was taken to a West Palm Beach hospital for treatment.
