GULF BREEZE - Going to the movies typically means sitting in a darkened theater, but for children with autism and other disabilities, that can be a show stopper.

That's why a local movie theater is now showing "sensory sensitive movies."

The Breeze Cinema 8 is turning down the sound, and leaving the lights up during certain show times so that kids can move around, and even get into the show by singing and dancing.

"We are doing what we can to make sure the kids have an awesome opportunity to enjoy a movie."

The theater's manager says it all started when an autistic child was afraid to go into the theater.

The movies will be held the first Saturday of every month.

The first one is "Astro Boy"; it airs Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

"Sensory sensitive movies" are only being offered in four Florida cities: Jacksonville, Tampa, Vero Beach, and now Gulf Breeze.Local Movie Theater Doing Special Shows for Disabled, Autistic Children

Probation for teen who helped in murder plot
November 20, 2009 18:16 EST

MIAMI (AP) -- A 13-year-old Miami Beach boy accused in a murder plot has agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors.

His attorney says the boy accepted the deal Friday and will not serve any serious prison time.

In September, the teen was accused of joining the plot of a 15-year-old friend to kill the older boy's mother. The younger boy stabbed her, but the steak knife broke on her collar bone.

Police charged the son with conspiracy, solicitation to commit murder and tampering with evidence.

The 13-year-old pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of aggravated battery, reduced from the initial charge of attempted murder. He will be on probation for six years and must undergo regular psychiatric treatment.

The 15-year-old boy remains in custody.
