PENSACOLA - It was once a popular watering hole in one Pensacola neighborhood, a good place to relax as well as a gathering place for the community.

But now, the only people it attracts are vagrants.

Channel Three's Mollye Barrows has more on this Gulf Coast Eyesore.

In it's heyday this building was a hub in the eastside neighborhood. Now the city says it's a dangerous nuisance.

Yusuf Williams/Neighbor: "It was a great gathering place for the neighborhood, all the old timers around here like myself, we remember. We had a lot of good times, listened to a lot of good music, met a lot of good people in there."

When Yusuf Williams moved to Pensacola's eastside neighborhood in 1973, the Traveler's Inn was a hot spot.

Across from the Magee Field Ball Park, people often met here after games and after work.

Williams: "This place was place of relief for people when they get too much dust."

Now the doors are locked, the roof is collapsing, and vines are taking over.

Inside, the place is a mess. There's trash on the floor..and the remnants of better times like jukeboxes, glass mugs, and autographs are covered in dust and mildew.

Pensacola's Code Enforcement started getting complaints about the building last year.

Robbie Weekley/City Inspector: "You've got the element that hangs out in abandoned buildings. It's right across the road from a city park where children play and that could be a problem if the wrong people get in here and hang out in the area."

Kshunda Silas often walks this neighborhood with her nephew.

Kshunda Silas/Neighbor: "I think it should be torn down." How come? "Because the roof is caving in and it's been like that a long time."

The property is owned by "Travelers of Pensacola," a small real estate development company in Gulf Breeze.

Owners planned to fix the place up before the market crashed.

Now with no money for repairs, the building's got to come down.

It's been here since 1933.

Weekley: "There's a lot of history in some of them, neighborhoods built around them, however it comes to the point where it is dangerous and we have to take some sort of corrective action to keep the public safe."

Yusuf Williams hates to see it go.

Williams: "I think it's a shame that it has to be torn down."

If the owner doesn't take care of it, the city plans to demolish it..

The property is in the process of changing hands and the owner says he has plans to demolish the unsafe eyesore next week then put the lot up for sale.

March 15, 2010 06:15 EDT

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Three people were killed when two vans collided in Tallahassee.

Authorities have not released the cause of the Sunday night crash, although speed does not appear to have been a factor.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a teen, either 15 or 16 years old, was killed in the crash, along with two other women. Everyone was wearing seat belts. All three died on the scene.

The accident is still under investigation.
