ESCAMBIA COUNTY - Fifty years is a long time to do anything, especially stay in one job, but Faye Schneidewind has done just that.
She is about to celebrate five decades as a waitress at Jerry's Drive in Pensacola.
Channel Three's Kathryn Daniel shares her story.
When we first get to Jerry's Drive-In, Ms. Faye Schneidewind is getting a congressional honor and an award from the mayor, but what she really wants to get is her customer's iced tea order.
Now, the recognition is nice, and she appreciates it, but her bread and butter for five decades has been great customer service.
Faye Schneidewind: "This one couple, I'm the only one they'll let wait on 'em."
She is so anxious to serve, she hardly slows down for our interview.
She's been waiting on Al Campbell since the early 70's. He says her attention to detail keeps him at her counter.
Al Campbell/Jerry's Customer: "Just as proficient now as she ever was."
Fast and efficient...and so sweet, co-workers call her "Faye Baby."
Sharon Johnson/Jerry's Drive-In: "Somebody just called her that and it just stuck, 'Faye Baby.'"
Sharon Johnson's granddaddy hired "Faye Baby" back in 1959, back when cheeseburgers cost a quarter and were the most popular item on the menu. They still are.
She likes 'em fine, but recommends a different entree of choice...
Faye Schneidewind: "I like that Grouper, it's good."
She has seen her share of famous faces flock to the local landmark. One in particular stands out...
Faye Schneidewind: "You remember Joe Namath, the football player?"
Her favorite part is when long-time customers bring in their grandbabies. We asked Ms. Faye, why keep working?
She says it's never occurred to her to quit.
Sharon says it's really because "Faye Baby" is a blackjack bandit, and uses her tips for weekly trips to Biloxi.
Sharon says the one and only time Ms. Faye missed work was for cataract surgery, a record they hope keeps up for them and her.
Sharon Johnson: "Probably what keeps her going, probably what keeps her going."

Ms. Faye's official 50th anniversary is Thursday.

John Travolta, family attend open of new movie

OCALA, Fla. (AP) -- The Travolta's are home for the Ocala open of the new Disney comedy 'Old Dogs' and to help raise money for five charities.
John Travolta, Kelly Preston and their daughter Ella Bleu Travolta greeted hundreds of fans on the red carpet Friday. The family expressed their appreciation to the community, ending their thanks with: "Love you, Ocala."
In January, 16-year-old Jett Travolta died at the family vacation home in Grand Bahamas.
The private gala raised money for five nonprofit agencies selected by Travolta: The Jett Travolta Foundation, Florida Highway Patrol Advisory Council, Project Hope, the Marion County Public Safety Assistance Trust, and the Humane Society of Marion County.
About 150 tickets at $250 apiece were sold to the general public, and the gala also had private invitations.
