NVARRE, FL - Theres been a rash of break-ins at several veterans post in our area over the last couple months.

This past weekend American Legion Post 0382 was hit.

The post is located on 1850 Luneta Street in Navarre.

That's where we join Channel Three's James Jackson and he joins us with the latest.

Luckily this post took precautions. They urge other service organizations in the area to do the same.

Santa Rosa investigators continue to look for clues Monday after the America Legion Post 0382 was burglarized.

Post Leader Jesse Joyce was the first person to get here after the crime Sunday morning.

Jesse Joyce "I came and found the front door was open. I looked inside and saw two doors were open so I backed up and called 911."

This is how the thieves got inside. The removed the A/C unit from the window then went through this door looking for cash.

Post leaders found the ATM vandalized and the chapter safe stolen. Jesse's wife, Verna, learned of the other break in's and removed most of the money the night before.

Verna Joyce "We needed to do something right away to secure any funds that were in the building. We did so and prevented them from taking quite a bit of money."

Jesse Joyce "It makes me feel like we have won over them. If the other service organizations would do the same thing in this three-county area that they're hitting then they are not going to get anything."

The thieves did get away with just over $20, which was in the safe. Jesse and Verna hope to get the safe back because of it's sentimental value.

Verna Joyce "It was donated by one of the sons of America Legion member. It was his father's safe. His father is deceased and it had a little plaque on it that said in loving memory of his father."

An alarm system will soon be installed at the post to keep it from happening again.

There's been an outpouring of community support.

American Legion members have offered to repair all of the damage at the post. AMVET Posts Burglaries
