PENSACOLA, FL - At least four people are recovering in local hospitals after being injured on the "Tidal Wave" ride at the Pensacola Fair this afternoon.

First On Three Bill Pearson followed rescue crews to the ride.

Passengers on the 'Tidal Wave' tell me it sounded like sections of the ride just started coming apart.

Within a split second, people onboard went into survival mode.

At least four people were hit in the head by metal parts of the ride.

Take a look here... Before the accident, we're told this area was filled in with a painted metal scene like those next to it.

Parts of the ride, including light bulbs could be seen in areas where people usually walk.

Friends and family of the injured riders do not believe the injuries are serious.

But it could have been worse according to one nine year old girl.

She credits her older sister with saving her from being hit during the breakdown.

Kayle Hopewell said, "Whenever my sister saw this little metal thing with lightbulbs on it, she saw it almost hit me, she pushed me out of the way and covered me up and it slapped her up side the head."

Don Frenkel, Fair General Manager, said, "All the rides are inspected by the Florida Department of Agriculture. This is a Manager's worst nightmare, you know. And of course we're concerned about the people. That's the main thing. It appears they're not seriously injured. Thank God."

The fair remains open for business tonight.. the final night of its run...

But the 'Tidal Wave' ride is closed, and should soon be inspected by the State Department Of Agriculture.

Fair managers tell us a full investigation will be done to make sure there's not another breakdown like this at next year's event.

Coming up tonight at Ten... We'll have a lot more on this story...

November 20, 2009 21:39 EST

OCALA, Fla. (AP) -- The Travolta's are home for the Ocala open of the new Disney comedy 'Old Dogs' and to help raise money for five charities.

John Travolta, Kelly Preston and their daughter Ella Bleu Travolta greeted hundreds of fans on the red carpet Friday. The family expressed their appreciation to the community, ending their thanks with: "Love you, Ocala."

In January, 16-year-old Jett Travolta died at the family vacation home in Grand Bahamas.

The private gala raised money for five nonprofit agencies selected by Travolta: The Jett Travolta Foundation, Florida Highway Patrol Advisory Council, Project Hope, the Marion County Public Safety Assistance Trust, and the Humane Society of Marion County.

About 150 tickets at $250 apiece were sold to the general public, and the gala also had private invitations.
