FLORIDA - 52 people have died in Florida after being tased by police.

Today, the Southern Christian Leadership Council rallied at the state capitol.

The group is calling on Governor Charlie Crist to ban tasers until they are proven safe.

SCLC general counsel Richard Wimbish says Florida is second only to California in taser deaths.

Richard Wimbish/SCLC, "We believe that these devices are dangerous. SCLC fully supports law enforcement. We believe that bans should be enacted until there is independent medical data that supports the fact these are indeed non lethal devices."

Last week, the Pensacola Police Department banned the use of tasers from moving vehicles.

The policy came after Officer Jerald Ard fired his taser while chasing 17 year old Victor Steen earlier this month.
