ESCAMBIA COUNTY - Family, friends, and community members laid 17 year old Victor Steen to rest this morning.

On October Fourth, Officer Jerald Ard was patroling Cervantes Street when he saw Steen.

Ard says Steen was acting suspiciously and took off when he approached.

Investigators say during the pursuit... Ard tried unsuccesffuly to taze Steen from his patrol car... Then Steen fell off his bike and into the path of Ard's patrol car.

As Channel Three's Jake Peterson shows us... Today, community members gathered to remember his life.

About three dozen residents gathered on Cervantes Street near the place where Victor died. Some of them knew him some of them didn't.

We go forward today to commomerate his life.

Side by side. Step by step they walked the streets of Pensacola in silence.

Sometimes silence is loud.

Young and old, black and white marched to remember Steen's life and what happened.

It's good to see and its not just one color its a different origin of people coming together like united as one which is how should be.

Victor's sister Fatina Dupree says the morning march gives the family strength.

I'm happy that somebody did come out cause he cant speak right now. I dont want my brothers voice to go unheard.

They marched from the crash site on Cervantes Street to Steen's funeral at the Greater Little Rock Baptist Church.

Some never even met the seventeen year old.

Part of it is solidarity and part of it is to express that we are behind the family.

James Lopez hopes the march shows support for the family and a lack of trust for the P-P-D.

Hopefully with our presence justice can be served.

The national chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership conference believes the same thing.

H.K. Matthews says the members are united. They plan to pressure the F-D-L-E to conduct a fair an accurate investigation into what happened to Victor Steen.

It indicates that we are here in solemn respect solemn remembrance of useless death of killed being killed whose life was ahead of him.

On Monday the national chapter of the SCLC plans to contact the US Attorney Generals Office to have them try to launch an investigation into what happened here.

The Pensacola Police Department has modified it's tazer policy since Steen's death.

They are no longer allowed to shoot a tazer from a patrol car.Victor Steen Memorial Service
