PENSACOLA - We now know the identity of the young man who died after being struck by a Pensacola police cruiser in Brownsville early Saturday morning.

First on Three, Channel Three's Greg Neumann is live at the scene of the incident with the new developments. Greg?

Mollye, Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigators used a cell phone found here at the scene to contact a family member of the victim.

That family member identified him as 17-year-old Victor Steen.

Art Rocker, the president of the Pensacola chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, was with Steen's family Monday night, and tells us the teen was a student at the Pensacola Junior College adult high school.

Now this is video from one of the witnesses that night.

Pensacola police officer Jerald Ard says he spotted Steen at a construction site near the area of T and Cervantes Streets Saturday morning acting suspiciously, and attempted to stop him for questioning.

That's when he says Steen fled on his bicycle.

Ard gave chase in his car, eventually firing his taser out the window at Steen, missing him.

Steen eventually jumped, or fell off his bicycle in a vacant bank parking lot on R and Cervantes, where Ard's vehicle struck him, pinning him underneath and killing him.

Witnesses to the incident question Ard's decision-making, and SCLC leaders say they want to bring in federal authorities to investigate.

"I think he used really poor judgement and it turned out for the worst. It was pretty awful, and I think a few different choices he could have made could have made this have better results."

"Two questions: one, how did the chase start? and why not give him medical attention."

SCLC leaders say they plan to ask the U.S. Justice Department for a full review of the incident.

Those same leaders say they're planning to hold a news conference with members of Victor Steen's family in the coming days.Police Chase Victim's Identity Revealed
