ESCAMBIA COUNTY - The public will get to weigh in on moving the Waterfront Rescue Mission next week.

County commissioners have already given conceptual approval to move the mission to a county building on Leonard Street near the sheriff's office.

That facility currently houses several different county agencies.

Those employees will all be moved out by April of next year.

Downtown business owners say moving the mission would be the best thing for everyone.

"Well, of course, I think it would be. Because there's a lot of people who sit in the park all day long and on the streets.

It would probably be a good move now rather than later on."

The mission has been downtown since 1949 but they're running out of room in the current location.

Next Tuesday, Commission Chair Marie Young will hold a Town Hall meeting on the move at 5:30 at Englewood Baptist Church.Waterfront Rescue Mission Could Possibly Move
