FORT WALTON BEACH - A fast-burning house fire claimed the life of a Fort Walton Beach woman this morning.

Firefighters were called to the house at 398 Canterbury Circle just after 4am, with reports of someone trapped inside.

When they arrived, the house was already over 90% involved.
Intense flames prevented firefighters from reaching the woman's room upstairs.

Firefighters say one reason the flames moved so fast was the home's floor plan, which was open to the second floor.

Batt. Chief Shannon Stone "..Which enables fire, once it gets a stronghold, to travel extremely fast, I mean frightening fast if you're inside. Sometimes not even.you don't have enough time to escape"

Another woman did manage to make it out of the house.
The State Fire Marshal is investigating.
Neither name is being released at this time.
