PENSACOLA, FL - Pensacola postal workers spent the day fighting to keep the downtown post office open.

Employees were protesting plans to possibly shut down the branch.

The U.S. Postal Service is facing a nearly seven billion dollar loss because of a decline in mail.

To combat the loss, they are considering closing or consolidating 700 locations across the country including the office on Palafox Street.

Sandra Wheeler//Mail Clerk: "It's really hard, you know. In this economy we are all trying to keep our jobs and we want to do everything we can to make sure our customers are satisfied and we also keep our jobs."

Tomorrow post office officials will hold a meeting to answer questions from the public about the possible closure.
