Mobile Home Fire Kills Escambia Man
ESCAMBIA COUNTY - An Escambia County man is dead tonight after falling victim to a trailer fire.

The blaze broke out at 39-07 Moreno Street around 2:30 this afternoon.

The 33 year old was actually pulled from the trailer by neighbors trying to rescue him.

Channel Three's Laurie Bernstein joins us live with a breaking news update on this deadly fire.

Sue, we can't tell you who the man is, yet his family still doesn't know what happened.

But the last time neighbors saw the man was an hour before the fire broke out.

He was being dropped off by Escambia sheriff's deputies unable to drive home from a bar on Mobile Highway.

The next thing people saw, this trailer behind me completely involved in flames.

"It was horrific."

Just as Williams will never forget, the image literally burned into his brain. His neighbor dying in front of his very eyes.

Both Williams and his father were in their home across Moreno Street when the flames broke out around 2:30.

"He said, Son, son there's a person on fire, and we rushed over to help."

One neighbor had already entered the home and pulled the victim from the burning trailer.

"As we passed the man he was still alive and breathing. He was having trouble breathin' but he was still alive and my dad said son lets get him."

With flames literally on their backs, Williams and his father tried to pull the man to safety as three fire fighters arrived on the scene and told everyone to get out of the way.

"We took off like great they are here. The saviors are here. Then we get back around the fire truck and suddenly they all become disoriented."

One firefighter rushed to the victims aid while the others hooked up hoses.

But the flames were too hot and all had to retreat leaving the victim on the porch still burning alive.

"We all watched it; watched a human life go before our very eyes. Its a tragedy. It pains my soul that I didnt do more."

Those three rescuers as well as witnesses who saw everything are very mad tonight.

They feel the fire department didn't do enough to save this man's life.

We'll have more from them as well as the fire chief's reaction tonight at ten.Mobile Home Fire Kills Escambia Man
