Florida's 911 System
FLORIDA - Two lawmakers plan to introduce new standards for 911 operators across the state.
This comes after the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Denise Lee in North Port.
Many blame a mishandled 911 call for her death.
Right now, dispatchers do not have to pass a test.
There's also no *mandatory training or monitoring.
In some cases, emergency operators are on the job for as little a two days before they're taking calls.
Those lawmakers want operators to receive 232 hours of training and require that they be re-certified every two years.
Lee's widower agrees with that proposal.
Nathan Lee: "I want to be able to show my kids one day, how big a difference their mom could make."
That 911 bill would cost an estimated 200-thousand dollars to start.
