MARLINS-REYES HAIRCUT

SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) -- Along with a new uniform, Jose Reyes is getting a new look.

The All-Star shortstop, who has let his dreadlocks grow since 2007, planned a nationally televised haircut Friday on the MLB Network.

Reyes left the New York Mets in December for a $106 million, six-year contract with the Miami Marlins. His new team has a rule prohibiting hair below the helmet line.

Reyes planned to have a barber from the Bronx perform the haircut at the MLB Network studios. Network spokeswoman Lorraine Fisher said the trim will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Florida, which planned to auction the hair on eBay.

Other players who have had to cut their hair to comply with team rules include Jason Giambi and Johnny Damon when they joined the New York Yankees.

JAMEIS WINSTON'S DECISION

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- One of the nation's top high school quarterbacks is bound for Florida State.

Hueytown's Jameis Winston announced his decision Friday at an indoor sports complex in Birmingham.

ESPN and Rivals.com both rate Winston as the nation's top quarterback and among the nation's 15 best prospects. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound dual threat quarterback was MVP of the UnderArmour All-American Game.

Winston also an outfielder and pitcher who could be a high draft pick in pro baseball.

He committed to the Seminoles in August but was at a football all-star game on signing day and waited to make it official. Winston's decision is a big boost for a Florida State class that ESPNU had already rated No. 2 nationally behind Alabama, which also heavily pursued Winston.

ACC EXPANSION-SCHEDULING

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- The Atlantic Coast Conference will play a nine-game schedule in football and every team will compete in the ACC basketball tournaments once Syracuse and Pittsburgh join the league.

The league announced Friday how it will incorporate the schools once they leave the Big East Conference. ACC commissioner John Swofford says it's still unclear when that will happen since Big East bylaws require a 27-month notice for a school to leave.

The league will leave its division alignments in place for football. Syracuse will join the Atlantic Division and Pittsburgh will join the Coastal. The two will serve as cross-division partners for scheduling purposes, meaning they'll play every year.

The league previously announced it would play an 18-game basketball schedule next season regardless of whether the schools have joined by then.
